RESCUES AND TIPS FOR YOU

Tips for Dark Elbows

Dark elbows can affect your self-confidence and force you into hiding them with long-sleeved shirts. Elbows are often ignored when considering hygiene and grooming. Dead skin cells build up, and the area darkens. Friction of the elbows against hard and abrasive surfaces may also cause darker skin. To lighten the skin on your elbows, consider several at-home and in-office treatments.

Lemons Rescue

Lemon juice is a natural skin-lightening treatment. The acidic juice contains enzymes that exfoliate and bleach the skin. Cut a lemon in half and rub it on your elbows. Leave the juice on your elbows for up to 15 minutes before washing it off with water. Repeating this process daily will gradually lighten the skin on your elbows. For a more aggressive scrub, dip the lemon half in salt before rubbing it on your elbows.

Commercial Remedies
Commercial skin bleaching creams are available over-the-counter in a wide range of prices. Following package directions for applying the cream to the affected area may lighten the skin. Look for creams that focus on dark elbows. If over-the-counter creams don't seem to work, visit a dermatologist. He can provide you with a prescription-strength bleaching cream.

Prevention
You can prevent dark elbows by not leaning on them when sitting or lying down. Avoid using them to balance the weight of your body. Apply sunscreen to your elbows when you go outdoors. Elbows are dry, similar to your knees, and the sun will darken them faster than the rest of your body. Washing your elbows with warm water and soap will keep them clean. Exfoliating them regularly, with a loofah, helps keep dead skin at bay. Apply moisturizer to your elbows daily to soften the skin.
